Yoga Home Studio's mission is to help make Yoga accessible for people who think they are unable to DO IT (i.e. people with physical limitations like MS.) So, my first classes are being held for folks with MS.
Our yoga classes are being sponsored by the Rhode Island Chapter of the MS Society, where class cost is fully reimbursed by the Society. My credentials are listed on the MS Society's website as a certified Yoga teacher with advanced specialized training in teaching people with MS.
My intention is to invite people with Parkinson's, ALS, CVA, people in wheel chairs - basically people with significant disabilities -- to come and BE Yoga (not just DO Yoga), because as long as you are breathing, you can BE Yoga and reap the benefits of bringing mind, body and spirit into harmony and balance.
What I would like to do is post stories, chants, music CD's for prayer, meditation and Yoga, short phrases by famous and not so famous Yogi's from the past and present for our readers and students. I would welcome interested students coming to HOME STUDIO through the website. But most importantly, if my words and spirit beaming in over the wire inspire one person with MS or any other disease to seek out an appropriate and safe Yoga class, I will have accomplished my mission and served the greater good.

What is a Gayatri mantra?
Listen to it and/or purchase it: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's Tina Malia and Shimshai - vocalists Jaya Bhagavan - Title
I am including the transliteration as well as the English:
Om Bhuh, Bhuvaha, Swaha Om Tat Savitur Varenyam Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi Dhiyo Yonaha Prachodayat
"O Self-Effulgent Light that has given birth to all the lokas (spheres of consciousness), who is worthy of worship and appears through the orbit of the Sun, Illumine our intellect."
This week's portion of the Toray, Mikeitz, tells of Pharaoh's dreams of the 7 cows, and the 7 sheaves of grain. Pharaoh's advisors try to interpret the dreams - suggesting that perhaps 7 daughters will die, or 7 kingdoms will rebel.
Pharaoh rejects these interpretations as incorrect. But how does he know? The answer is that Pharaoh had actually dreamed the interpretations, but then forgot them. The verse implies this by saying that no one was able to "interpret for Pharaoh."
This teaches us a profound lesson in life: YOU CAN'T CONVINCE ANYONE OF ANYTHING - you can only try to get him in touch with a truth he already knows. Buried within the farthest corner of our memory, lies an inborn conscience, a natural wisdom that God (or, our higher power, our 'soul', our inner knowing, our intuition....call it whatever you are comfortable with) programmed into every human being. That helps explain how we recognize evil (or poor choices, call it what makes you comfortable), and why a person's gut reaction so often proves true.
But intuition is not enough. It is the task of parents and teachers to bring that God-given knowledge forward into the conscious mind.
This concept appears again later in the parsha. Joseph reveals his identity to his brothers - only after they realize their mistake of having sold Joseph 22 years earlier. Joseph understood a key principle of education: Personal realization is 100 times greater than being told.
So in looking for solutions in life, beware of those who try to impose their position on you, and find instead a mentor who will help you ... discover you.
