" . . .Operation Rescue leader Randall Terry, an egotistical, self-aggrandizing super-nerd, commanded the room like a rock star. Women fainted and lay trembling on the ground when he entered to thundering applause and the screams of people who love Jesus so much they act like they're crazy.

"The chemistry in the room was unlike anything I've been around, before or since.

"In just a few weeks in Wichita, Operation Rescue forged an unholy alliance of sexually repressed super Christians, men who hate women and women who hate themselves and turned them into a supercharged army of bullies for Jesus.

" . . .And they were bullies."

The article is telling.  Telling of the sickness in our society.  My father did not approve of abortion, and in fact, he believed it would be our undoing as a nation.  He felt so strongly about it, that when my 14 year old youngest sister became pregnant, we had a family meeting about how to support and help my sister at that time.  NEVER was abortion even an option.  As a family, we agreed to release the baby for adoption; so my sister bravely and with a broken heart, carried a little boy to full term then gave him away after holding him one last time and even naming the child Jason.  I was called to her side when she had great difficulty with the delivery that took almost two days back in 1964 -- my parents were both on a gurney in the hospital unstrung and scared to death.  I don't know what I would have done had the baby and docs created a dilemma in which I had to help the girl decide about aborting the baby.  Thankfully, God never put us in that bind.  I loved my sister and had one small child myself; so the mother instinct was strong in me.  But I didn't have to endure "terrorists," nor did I talk to another human being about right action -- I prayed to God and consulted with the doctors, and my sister throughout this ordeal and prayed for strength and His will to be done.  Having had this harrowing experience I comment as follows:   

I don't think I could have an abortion except in very extenuating circumstances.  Still, I understand and leave room for those people who decide they have to end a pregnancy.  I believe it is a very private and personal choice, between the couple, the doctor, and God.  When these apes bring in busloads of people to hound a clinic so their own ends can be met, that is indeed a form of terrorism.  Terrorism is not just what we all read about in the Middle East, although they are some of the best at it in the world.  And terrorism is not something new to modern times.  These things have gone on since the dawn of time.  In my opinion, the frequency of its use and the circumstances under which people become "terrorists" today indicates the sickness in society and the world.  Like so many other downward spirals, I don't think anyone but God can reverse our course.  And I think that reversal and correction is coming in our life time. 

Jesus was never a bully, though he could have been, given his astounding powers.  That alone gives me the guidance I would need to decide whether or not to be a terrorist of any kind under any circumstance.  In the death of Dr. Tiller and even in the behaviors described by Mapes' article, these terrorists were way off base.  They were off base because they broke at least two commandments:  they judged then they murdered.  "Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord."  Having put themselves in God's shoes, they were heady with the power of their judgment against their "enemies."  Then in a predictable and even greater power grab, they collectively became responsible for Dr. Tiller's death.  How ironic it happened in church.  God will not be mocked.  I would not want to be any member of that group and have to meet my Maker.  Humans are insufficiently wise to feel they in any way can override the commandments for any reason.  The "organized collectives" of crazies who march on and become their own cause-guerilla-warriors is a form of trying to be a god.  Well.  It seems the collective broke 3 commandments instead of 2 - "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."
